Yellowstone prequel 1923 is back with a second episode on The Paramount Network and Paramount Plus and it reintroduced a character from season one. While Jacob Dutton (played by Harrison Ford) was in town running some errands, he spoke to the judge about the release of Zane Davis (Brian Geraghty) and his family.
Zane was in hospital having suffered a life-changing injury, while his wife and children were being held following their arrest. Jacob said to make things easier on the State, he would take the family into his custody.
Zane, who has been described as the ‘Rip Wheeler of 1923’, had worked on the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch as a loyal foreman and he is married to Alice Chow (Joy Osmanski). They have two children together – Matthew and Madelyn.
In the season one finale, viewers found out that Zane was married to an Asian woman and due to their interracial relationship, they were arrested. Zane had been trying to defend his wife after she was arrested for violating Montanas anti-miscegenation law.
The actor divulged how the storyline is surprisingly close to home, telling Woman’s World: “Its a meaningful storyline for me because its actually personal in my own life. I had the privilege to learn about that and what it would have been like or what its like today.
“And I think it mirrors, in ways, what were going through as a nation and what well always go through, which is segregation and racism.
Following his arrest, Zane was taken to Bozeman, Montana, to await trial, leaving everyone to wonder about his fate.
The star expanded: “Will he be able to do his job, which is work for the Duttons? And if not, what does that mean for him? If he cant have this job anymore, who is he and where is he?
Fans have taken to Reddit to discuss the character’s fate, with OK_Concentrate_9863 believing there was a 50/50 chance of him dying.
They said: “One of my favorite characters in 1923. In true TS fashion, he’s the guy you like that then gets killed.
“If Zane and his wife are both dead, then I can certainly see the Duttons taking their children under their wing.”
Thankfully the latest episode reveals the pair did not die in prison, and although they had to make the perilous journey back to the ranch, Zane and Alice were reunited once more.
