Rapper Sean Kingston was sentenced to three and a half years in prison after being convicted of wire fraud earlier this year.
The Beautiful Girls singer received the sentence on Friday August 15 in South Florida. Sean, real name Kisean Paul Anderson, was convicted by a federal jury of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four counts of wire fraud alongside his mother, Janice Eleanor Turner back in March of this year.
In addition to the three and a half years of prison time, he also received three years of supervised release. Janice was sentenced to five years in prison in July 2025 by U.S. Judge David Leibowitz, but Sean’s sentencing was delayed to August. The mother and son were arrested in May 2024 after Sean’s rented home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was raided by a SWAT team.
Janice was brought into custody during the raid, while Sean was arrested at Fort Irwin – an Amy training base in the Mojave Desert in California – where he was performing.
Court documents showed that Sean used social media from April 2023 to March 2024 to purchase high-end merchandise, including a bulletproof Escalade, expensive watches, and a 19-foot LED TV. After negotiating a deal, Sean would then invite the seller to one of his homes in Florida and promise to feature the seller and their product on his social media.
Investigators concluded that either Sean or his mother would text the seller fake wire receipts for the merchandise. The funds wouldn’t clear, as they were faked, so the seller would reach out to the mother and son repeatedly, but never got paid.
The two defrauded people out of $1 million worth of expensive items and cash. Janice and Sean were brought to trial in March of this year, lasting from March 24 to March 28. After three and a half hours of deliberation, the jury found them both guilty.
As the verdict was read, Sean was seen crying and holding his hands together. He also pleaded for the authorities to “protect my mother” as she faced jail time.
While awaiting sentencing, Sean was placed under house arrest, monitored electronically, and secured a bond release. This wasn’t Janice’s first run in with the law, as she has a history of bank fraud starting in 2006 which led to an 18-month prison sentence.
