DK Metcalf predicted to land with $262 million superstar quarterback in blockbuster trade image

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf is ready to move on, as the veteran requested a trade out of Seattle on Wednesday, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.

Metcalf has been in trade rumors over the last few weeks, as the 2019 second-round pick has just one year left on his contract and looked disgruntled at times last season.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Metcalf prefers to be moved to a contender, and Fox Sports’ Carmen Vitali believes the Los Angeles Chargers are the ideal landing spot for the two-time Pro Bowl receiver.

“Hmm … what team could use size on the outside in their wide receiver corps? Who is maybe on the cusp of some real success with an old-school coach and a spunky young-ish quarterback? Still on the Pacific Time Zone in a large market that Metcalf could strut his latest Lululemon outfit around? How about the Chargers? Once I say it, doesn’t it just kind of make sense?” Vitali wrote.

“Metcalf looks like he could use a fresh start, this also seems like a win-win for both teams: Seattle getting a huge salary off the books and L.A. getting a star at a position of need,” Vitali added.

The Chargers were able to find a productive slot receiver in the 2024 NFL Draft for quarterback Justin Herbert in Ladd McConkey, who had an impressive rookie campaign and served as the team’s primary receiving option. However, the Chargers still lack a dynamic wide receiver and won’t be able to compete for the AFC West crown until they find a true No.1 playmaker.

Though Metcalf is coming off a down year, the 27-year-old is one of the most exciting receivers in football and has tallied three 1,000-yard seasons since entering the league in 2019. Metcalf would immediately step in as Herbert’s featured receiver and could flourish in a Chargers’ offense that is just a few pieces away from being an elite unit.

Trading for Metcalf should only cost Los Angeles a Day 2 pick, but signing the former Ole Miss standout to a contract extension will be the main issue in getting a deal done with the Seahawks. However, the Chargers are slated to have a ton of cap space over the next few years and don’t have many big-time players who need extensions anytime soon, so they should have enough money to sign Metcalf to a new contract if they acquire him.

Overall, Los Angeles must go all in and surround Herbert with as much talent as possible. DK Metcalf has had some ups and downs throughout his career, but the former Day 2 pick would elevate Greg Roman’s offense and thrust the Chargers into AFC contention.
