Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin met for what was an historic meeting on Friday (August 15) as they sat down to discuss the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine
During just their third encounter in seven years, US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin came face-to-face yesterday (August 15) as they sat down to discuss the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
After both leaders flew into Anchorage, Alaska, they were spotted descending from their aircraft onto the red carpet before exchanging a business-like handshake and engaging in brief conversation. The pair later conducted a joint press conference, delivering prepared statements to the assembled media who had gathered for what could prove to be a historic occasion.
Body language expert and relationship expert Nia Williams analyzed the two leaders during the press conference, telling the Irish Star that the American president’s posture indicated he was “extremely confident” with his “shoulders back and head upwards”.
The director of dating service Miss Date Doctor also noted how the US leader maintained “strong eye contact” and “locked eyes” with Putin, indicating his engagement and interest in the conversation.
Williams further observed how the 79-year-old Trump displayed “approval in his eyes” when the Russian president expressed gratitude to his American counterpart.
In her additional assessment of their body language, she identified distinct “power dynamics” unfolding during their press conference. However, she also noted there was a “glaring mutual respect” which was clear from the frequent “eye contact”.
She continued: “The power dynamics displayed between Putin and Trump reveal dominance, control, comfortability with proximity and a closeness due to a glaring mutual respect with the head nods and eye contact speaking volumes.”
She also closely observed Putin’s behavior, noting: “Putin’s body language is extremely comfortable and relaxed strong and purposeful still arm movement from Putin indicates leadership and authority.”
Despite the obvious respect between the two leaders, their short meeting ended without any deal for a ceasefire in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
However, the duo appear likely to meet again soon in another attempt to hammer out a peace agreement.
As their public appearance in Alaska neared its end, Putin appeared to extend an invitation to Trump to visit Moscow, with Trump replying: “Oh, that’s an interesting one.”
He continued: “I’ll get a little heat on that one, but I could see it possibly happening.”
And, it was revealed earlier today that Donald Trump is scheduled to hold discussions with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday (August 18), with the Ukrainian posting on X: “On Monday, I will meet with President Trump in Washington, D.C, to discuss all of the details regarding ending the killing and the war. I am grateful for the invitation.”
